When you think of God, what comes to your mind? Many times we tend to view God in a way that best fits our particular need or situation. If we are wrestling with guilt, we may focus on God’s forgiveness. If we are struggling with our next step in life, we may focus on His sovereignty.
In Psalm 145 we read, “Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable.” The truth is, we will never be able to fully comprehend the character of our God until eternity. Even our attempts to communicate who God is through these few songs fall short of fully expressing the glory of the character and nature of God.
One place we find the character and the glory of God on display is in His written revelation to us. The fact is, the glory of God and the glory of His Word are inseparably linked. The Word of God is so bound up with God and so connected to His divine character that many of His attributes become attributes of His Word. He is eternal! ("Forever O God, Your word is settled in the heavens.") God is omnipotent! ("The Word of God is quick and powerful...") In other words, when we experience the Word, we experience God!
As we worked and prayed over this project, our minds continued to run to the Psalms. Our hearts were captured by how awesome our God has been to our churches, families, and to us personally. It is our desire that as you listen, the Word of God worked into these songs would direct your heart and mind to celebrate and declare His greatness! It is our prayer that this second Psalms project be used as a tool to praise His holy name and to bless our hearts in the security of God’s very being. Let’s declare to all people the greatness of our God!
