Each song in this CD, Psalms: God’s Refreshing Oasis, draws its message from a very specific psalm. The Scriptures often use the metaphor of thirsty pilgrims searching for cool water to explain our need for God. As a river originates from a constantly renewing spring, so the Psalms are sourced in who God is and provide an eternal, divine place of refreshment for us. These thirteen psalms become places of prayer, clarity and beauty for us as our spiritual thirst is satisfied with God’s Word.
Although the children of Israel wandered through the wilderness because of their disobedience, God extended His gracious, good and guiding hand and allowed them to find water from a rock (Numbers 20; Psalm 110:7). Throughout the Old Testament, God is called “Rock,” and He “protected and sustained His people.” I Corinthians 10:4 states that the Israelites “did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.” As the water from the rock physically refreshed the children of Israel, so Christ is that Rock, and we are spiritually renewed in Him.
