The scripture often depicts our relationship to God as sheep and shepherd. We are the sheep who have 'gone astray.' We have brazenly followed the sinful desires of our own hearts that have led us far away from God into ruin and judgment. In other words, we are 'lost' sheep. Jesus, however, is the Shepherd who came to seek and to save his wandering sheep. He is the good Shepherd who laid down His life for us, and now He calls us to follow Him, to believe His words, and to enter His fold.
